Meet Spencer
Spencer grew up in a small Ohio town before moving to Texas in 1992 to attend the University of Houston on an academic scholarship. After graduating in 1997 with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, he started working for a small technical-services firm, Zlan, which was then located in Sachse and Wylie.
Soon after moving to DFW, he began dating his future wife, Debbie. They moved to Sachse after they got married in 2001, and have three children. Their oldest, Abigail (Abby), is a freshman at UT in Austin. Their oldest son, Andrew (Andy), is a junior at Wylie High, and their youngest son, Elijah (Eli), is in second grade at Whitt Elementary, where Debbie worked for 11 years as the Speech Pathologist.
Since the state of Texas had invested in his college education he felt called to do what he could to make a positive impact on the community. In 2004, he began volunteering to serve on boards and commissions for the city of Sachse. Since then, he has spent time on the Board of Adjustments, the Parks and Recreation Board, and the Board of Directors for the Sachse Economic Development Corporation, where he spent the last 8 years as the board's president.
In 2010, he enlisted in the Texas State Guard after being recruited by one of his Sachse neighbors. He spent 11 years serving one weekend per month with the 436th Air Support Group in Grand Prairie, spending most of his time in a National Guard unit’s motor pool servicing their vehicles and learning valuable lessons in character and leadership.
He's set out now to take the next step on his service-oriented journey by running for a seat on the Sachse City Council.
"I want to take everything that I’ve learned in my years as a volunteer and put those lessons to good use as a leader for Sachse, and continue to do what I can to make a positive impact on the community as I set out to do 18 years ago."
